Fire Extinguisher Servicing, Maintenance & Installation
D Birch Electrical are trained and qualified in fire extinguisher servicing, maintenance and installations.
It is essential that Fire extinguishers work efficiently at all times. The Regulatory Fire Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005, states that all fire-extinguisher equipment ‘must be subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair’. We can check your extinguishers for corrosion or damage, and ensure that they are in safe working condition. This is essential as they can burst and cause serious injuries if corrosion has occurred. We undertake our fire extinguisher inspections through both visual inspection and maintenance.
If your premises happened to suffer a fire right now, would you have the correct fire extinguisher to put the fire out safely?
The potential for a small fire to grow rapidly and cause damage to your property, and your employees is extremely high. This is why fire extinguisher servicing is extremely important, and that they are serviced and inspected on a regular basis.
D Birch Electrical have obtained certifications in the servicing of fire extinguishers. You can trust us to provide a hassle free service, which could prove vital to your business – leaving you with peace of mind that qualified electricians are undertaking the installations efficiently. We will select and site the most appropriate extinguisher to protect your premises and those who enter.
We can also replace and refill your used extinguishers, time and time again!
When Should you Service your Fire Extinguisher?
The below table shows the intervals and inspections that are recommended for the maintenance of fire extinguishers, and how often they should be tested / inspected.
|Water and Water Based||Monthly||Annually||Every 5 Years|
|Powder||Monthly||Annually||Every 5 Years|
|Powder – primary sealed||Monthly||Annually||Every 10 Years|
|CO2||Monthly||Annually||Every 10 Years|
Basic Visual Inspection
We recommend that a visual inspection should be carried out on a monthly basis, and also recommend that notes are recorded. The below factors should be focused on:
– Location / Visibility of the extinguisher – is it located in a suitable and accessible place? And is it easily seen?
– Operating – are the instructions on the extinguisher clean, facing outwards and easy to read?
– Condition of the extinguisher – has the extinguisher been used, is there any obvious damage / corrosion or are there any missing parts?
– Extinguisher pressure – is the extinguishers pressure within a safe operating limit?
– Tamper seals – are the seals and tamper indicators broken?
We recommend that every five years that water and powder based fire extinguishers receive an extended service.
This service includes completely discharging the extinguisher, checking for internal corrosion, re-pressuring and refilling.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers should go no longer than 10 years without an extended service.
Within this service we would undertake a hydrostatic pressure test, in order to comply with pressure vessel legislation.
